A short walk from Kemmanagundi leads out along a spur to Z Point, a rocky ledge that looks west over folds of the Baba Budangiri range. It is the classic sunset spot of the hill station — the last stretch is a narrow path, so shoes with grip help.

Travel tips
A 45-minute walk uphill from Raj Bhavan at Kemmanagundi, on a stepped and then open path. Sunrise is the reason to do it. There is nothing at the top — no shade, no water, no shelter.

Do: carry water and a windproof layer; the point is exposed and cold at dawn. Do: keep back from the edge, which is unfenced. Don't: attempt it in the dark without a torch and company. Don't: leave anything behind — the walk out is the only waste collection there is.
